We want to make sure you know what's happening down the road as well
as what's happened. We've realized this past year that not
all recent events are happy ones and will post both the sad and joyous
events here.
Upcoming Events:
Stay tuned for announcements of upcoming events!! Take time to look at our new page, Fund Raising, and get all the
details about Doxy t-shirts and note cards.
Recent Events:
Doxy’s hosted its second annual Volunteer
Recognition Party on February 4, 2012. Our volunteer group has grown from five
to fourteen since our recognition party just 13 months ago. The group was too
large to even get a good picture of everyone together and that’s a great thing for Doxy’s. Four volunteers, Robin, Leah, Shawna, and Lynn were unable to attend. Present were Ann, Diane, Barb, Lori, Katrina, Kathey, Linda, Carol, Dee, and Carolyn. All enjoyed great snacks, pizza, salad, and a delectable double crust peach cobbler.
Much of Doxy’s success depends on the efforts, hard work and reliability
of our volunteers. As our email invitation wrote; “Here's to all volunteers, those dedicated
people who believe in all work and no pay.” ~Robert Orben

What a wonderful day and fund
raising event December 17, 2011 was for Doxy’s. A wonderful crowd, lots
of happy and excited children and even a few dogs, 2 grey hounds and a whippet, were there to meet the Christmas minis, Mrs.
Claus, one of Santa’s elves, and have their pictures taken. To all who
donated for pictures, note cards or simple and pure cash, we thank you from the bottom of each horse’s heart. Many thanks to volunteers that helped make this such a successful event and to Vestal Tractor Supply for
their wonderful accommodations and assistance with whatever we needed.
Best
wishes to all for the happiest of holidays!

A great day on
October 22, 2011 for Doxy’s and all of the people who stopped by, purchased items and had a horseback or donkey
ride. We dodged the rain and stiff winds but the day certainly lacked some sunshine
and warm air. Marilyn reported she felt like a popsicle by the end of the afternoon.
Just a few of the many pictures taken by Joe from Queens, NY who saved the day with his camera.
First row shows
some of our fund raising items and customers.
Second row shows
Jasmine, Sadie and Rocket helping.
Third and fourth
shows the faithful Bandit and Clyde helping while Smokey just hung out in the enclosure.
Many thanks to
our volunteers and for all of you who support us in so many different ways!
First, we’d like to thank the people
who stopped by on a cool, damp and dreary day for the open house on September 24, 2011.
Our turn-out was not the greatest but we think we may have recruited a new volunteer to work with horses, always a
plus. We had an old friend from Little Meadows attend, a true horse advocate,
and she brought along some neat samples of medium sized note cards to sell as a fund raiser.
This will soon be posted on the What’s New and Fund Raising pages. If
you have ideas, PLEASE pass them along to us.
Our board director was present and we
spent lots of time talking about ways to promote and support Doxy’s, also another big plus!
So, enjoy the photos of horses getting
some exercise and training on that day – Sadie will soon appear on the What’s New and Horses Waiting for Adoption
pages.

Ruby, our 13 year old grade mare who foaled Pearl (now known as Dolly) in
June 2010 died very unexpectedly on Sunday, August 21, 2011 while Michael was working with her on learning to be trailered. It is believed that she died of a ruptured aneurysm, dying instantly. This happened just a week after Little Boy Blue, Marilyn’s Mother’s Day baby goat, died on
August 12, 2011 after being hit by a truck in front of the house. We have so
many joys to celebrate, finding that so easy to do but sorrow is part of life and never easy.
We came out in style with our new tent and Doxy's banner at the Duck Derby
on August 20, 2011, had many visitors and sold a good number of raffle tickets. The "mini boys" and Clyde enjoyed their
appearance and loved all the attention showered on them.

Despite some showers we had a great turn-out at the Tractor Supply Meet
and Greet and got off to a good start with the Schmid carousel raffle. Many, many thanks to all who were there to support
Doxy's and to Tractor Supply for the wonderful accommodations for the horses and visitors. Robin, the tent was a "shower
saver"!

The Trailblazers 4-H group had a booth at the Broome County Fair starting
July 26, 2011 in Whitney Point and asked if they could set up a display with pictures of some of Doxy's
horses. Wow, what a great idea, Trailblazers!! Thank you so much for assisting us in helping others know about
these beautiful horses who are waiting for their special homes.

Our open house on June 18, 2011 was attended by about 25 people, less than last year but still a successful
event. We obtained 2 additional volunteers, one for riding and one for general
help and to assist with publicity. Volunteers are a significant part of the backbone
of our recovery organization and their help contributes to the best of care for the horses.
The weather was beautiful and we received monetary donations from 3 of our visitors.
What can we say except thank you for contributing, signing up on the volunteer list and for attending to show your
support for Doxy’s Horse Recovery. As Marilyn reports, “You can be
sure your efforts don’t support a high paid CEO!”

Doxy's had a team of 7 riders in the annual St. Jude Trail Ride,
sponsored by Rex Farms, on May 14, 2011. As reported by one of our team members, " The weather
didn't cooperate (it rained for the full hour and a half that we rode) but it didn't scare off participants. I would
also like to thank all of you for your prayers - we had fun and everyone was safe, albeit soaked to the skin and cold".
A grand total of $5,025 was raised by the 52 participants. We'll update this when we get the final
total for the event. We do know that Barb from the Doxy's Team raised the most money, coming in at $450 and the
total for our team was $1,082, meaning we raised almos 25% of the donations !!! Many thanks to those who sponsored
us!!
Disco delivered a baby girl at 11:30 PM on April 8, 2011. She is
now named Abi's Shooting Star, chosen by Mike and Marilyn from the filly names that were submitted. After seeing her,
we believe her father was probably the black stallion on the farm where Disco lived before being sold for slaughter.
She's a small girl, much smaller than Pearl who was born last June, very friendly and interested in everything around her,
including people. Disco has displayed wonderful maternal instincts and is happy to have gentle folks touch her baby.
Abigail, a 9 year old local girl, won the contest for the selection of Disco's
foal, now named Abi's Shooting Star. She was so excited to have her picture taken with the little filly and donated
her $25.00 prize back to Doxy's. Her family has a horse that is currently boarded and they're looking to be able to
have their horse at home and add another one. Abigail rides along with her mother. Congratulations and many thanks
for your donation and taking the time on April 16, 2011 to have your picture taken with Aib's Shooting Star!!
As many of you may know, we lost Missy and Sunshine to Equine Herpes Virus, a very contagious and
often deadly disease, in February 2011. We were under quarantine by NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets for a month
during which time all horses' temperatures had to be taken at least daily and no one could be around the horses who had contact
with other horses. It was very stressful for the horses, our volunteers and us but God was good and no other horses became
ill.
