Why Doxy's?
Fund Raising

Why adopt from Doxy's?  We could tell you why we think you should adopt from us.  Instead, read the quotes from the owners of horses who found permanent homes with good and loving families.

This page is also for sharing special stories of adopted horses and their special owners. Many times new owners follow up with us to let us know how their "new family" is doing. If you'd like to let us know about your experience, feel free to contact us by phone, mail or email.

Survey Results 2011:

Doxy’s sent out 21 “Why Doxy’s Horse Recovery, Inc.” surveys in October 2011 to people who had adopted horses from us since we became incorporated in July 2009.  We received 9 responses back, almost 50%, a pretty good return rate as surveys go.

Our results were overwhelmingly positive and we received many excellent written statements which have been posted on this page with the permission of the responder.

As a public charity dedicated to recovering and re-homing horses it is very important for customers to express their opinions to see what we do well and what we need to do better.  To all who returned the survey, we thank you for your input and positive remarks.

Quotes from the Horse Owner's Mouth:

"Rocket is an amazing horse.  My children were able to ride him right away.  He is a great addition to our growing family...You do amazing work."
. . . Tami R. Denny, adopted Rocket December 20, 2011

"They have brought so much enjoyment to our lives. plan on sending Savannah to a trainer this spring , enjoying watching Arabella grow.  You guys are doing a great job with all the horses giving them a second chance in life - keep up the good work."
. . . Chelsea and Lisa, adopted Savannah and Arabella July 28, 2011 .

"Button is wonderful with the kids.  They ride her with her halter and a rope tied to each side for makeshift reins and Button responds very well to it.  She will walk and stop on command.  She even does good now standing and waiting for the kids to get on her.  She is such a joy to have.  I am soooo glad that she is part of our family.  Very happy with horse.  Had plenty of time to work with her to make sure she was a good fit."
. . . Beth and Family adopted Button September 18, 2011

"I believe all the attention/handling (love) that China received by you is what has made her the loveable and easy to handle horse she is."
. . . Lora, adopted China July 17, 2011

"I'm a volunteer and love being there.  Amber still resides at Doxy's as you know.  Would love to take her home to make room for another horse but have no room at home."
. . . Barb adopted Amber June 4, 2011

"Dolly is so wonderful.  Everything I do with her she takes in stride without causing any trouble.  I took her for a walk with me today down the road to the neighbors house and she didn't hesitate.  The neighbors were laughing as we walked away because she just follows me like a dog.  I love her so much she is the best little girl ever.  I have saddled and tightened the girth, she didn't even flinch.  With her great beginnings at Doxy's she only trusts people to be kind and loving to her.  She is going to be the best little riding horse."
. . . Melanie adopted Dolly April 16, 2011

"Sam was the perfect fit for me, even when everyone was a little dubious at first.  But we've worked together and have created something very special.  I've always wanted to try jumping and possibly eventing in the future but never had the horse for it.  I met Sam and knew he was perfect.  Little did I know just how perfect.  This year we've competed in 2 horse shows in hunter classes, trained with a top dressage trainer and then competed in 2 hunter paces, 10 miles with 2 and 3 foot jumps.  He loves it and so do I!  I never look back and regret adopting this horse and I never will.  Thank you Doxy's for finding this horse and letting me take him to his forever home with me!"
. . . Cori adopted Sam July 17, 2010

"Wonderful care.  Comfortable knowing that we can call for any quetions and great personal service."
. . . Christian and Karen adopted Copper February 12, 2010, Girly Girl July 9, 2010 and J.P. September 2010
